The True Purpose of Retreats into Self-Care & Nervous System Regulation

There are dozens of wellness advocates holding retreat days promising you nervous system regulation or calm, nurturing connection. Especially in this part of the world, it seems – we’re everywhere!

So what you really need to hear from me is why Love Your Inner Light, Get Your Outer Glow is different.  And why it’s for you if you’re a bit yoga’d out and don’t want to be all serious and sacred about your inner calm.

It’s no good having a pretty, intention-based day if it only lasts while your there – or maybe as far as Sunday night if you’re lucky.

What you need is help for your Everyday. The days when you can’t be bothered with it all, days when you’re stressed to the hilt, days when you’d just rather be where I want to be – lounging on a hammock under a palm tree, with the blue ocean twinkling at you.  Preferably with a pina colada or a mojito.

Here’s why it’s different:

I’m not going to tell you to just breathe when your hearts going like the clappers and you feel like you’re gasping for breath like a fish out of water.  I’m going to tell you HOW to breath, and why that way works.

I’m not going to preach that nervous system regulation will heal the world when you’re in the middle of an anxiety attack.  I‘m going to show you ways to feel calm enough to speak when you’re at the checkout in Tesco (other supermarkets are available).

I’m going to show you what saved my life: how to separate living inside the emotional s***storm that threatens to carry you away from living outside it, and making it fade enough to make sense of the debris.

And then the fun begins…

That tension you carry around in your shoulders, neck and scalp?  The one that creates the 11-lines and the frown lines, the one that causes you to clench and grind when you’re otherwise occupied, resulting in headaches and the urge to cry for no good reason? – that.

That’s what we’re going to fix – and it comes with a rather fab side-effect. Or two.

I’m going to show you how to get your muscles to stand down, your fascia to take a break and your lymph to get into its own full flow. You’ll be following along, precisely because it’s no good having it done to you once a month – you want to do it every morning – even just a few vital moves to get you moving.

Even better, you get to do this with beautiful botanical, gorgeous-smelling organic skincare – but this is not the end. Regular face yoga LIFTS & SMOOTHS!  So the more you release the tightness in the muscle layers beneath, the smoother the skin.

Sounds good, right?

We’re holding this day at Wellness @ Roundhill which has two more facilities we’ll be using for the afternoon.

After lunch…

An afternoon of (more) self-love and pampering.

This sounds vague, I now, but here it is:

Time. Peace. Rest.  All MASSIVELY under-rated in the increasingly-unbearable busy life we’re living, all in desperately short supply in a world full of strain and bargaining.  These are the things we need for balance, we want for our minds and bodies, and we dream of having whilst simultaneously denying ourselves exactly those things.

Guilt leads to self-abandonment, which leads to resentment.  And when you resent your life, you’re no longer happy -and no longer able to love your people whole-heartedly.  There’s nothing left.

So let’s nip that in the bud and get you resourced and regulated enough to deal with all the demands and endless lists.

So the afternoon is yours, in multiple ways:

Lounge under the palm tree (yes, they have one!) read a book, hydrate, eat, talk, snooze.  Whatever fills your cup after the morning of paying attention to you.

Reflect, think, plan, doodle.

Write: a letter, a poem, a stream of consciousness – whatever comes.  There’ll be a jar of curated writing prompts in the garden to choose from, and you write whatever comes up on the day.  You may be surprised at the unusual prompts, you may be surprised by your unexpected responses.  But it’ll be something you needed to get out of your body.  Trust the pen – your hand knows the way.

And for some of you, Vicki & I are at hand with the gift of touch: 30 minutes to yourself with our hands and the most beautiful oil you can imagine. Which part of you needs attention?  You’re your hands, or maybe your back, shoulders, neck want more.  Or maybe a botanical facial to keep that glow going.  You name it. Yes, you do deserve it. And hands that serve with love are the ones that are felt most deeply.
